On Thursday, February 20th, the People’s Organization for Progress will host a special discussion on the public schools, “The Current Crisis In Newark Schools,” featuring guest speaker Walter C. Farrell Jr.

This discussion was originally scheduled for last Thursday but was postponed to due inclement weather.

Professor Farrell is a professor of social work at UNC-Chapel Hill and a Fellow in the National Education Policy Center (NEPC) at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

He is a long time member and supporter of the People’s Organization for Progress.

Dr. Farrell’s discussion comes at a time when the city is in the throes of a broadening community based resistance of parents, teachers and longtime city residents to draconian efforts to privatize Newark schools without the communities consent by the state imposed superintendent Cami Anderson.

Farrell’s discussion will take place at the organization’s weekly general assembly meeting at Abyssinian Baptist Church, 224 West Kinney Street, Newark. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
