Friends,

Please attend the “Hands Off Medicare & Social Security” demonstration sponsored by the People’s Organization for Progress and New Jersey One Plan One Nation to protest cuts in Medicare, Social Security & other programs tomorrow, Tuesday July 30, 12noon at the Social Security Office 274 Springfield Ave in Newark.

We are having the protest because the proposed cuts by President Obama and members of Congress will have a negative affect on our communities.

The Medicare program was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on July 30, 1965. We are protesting to demand that the Medicare program be expanded to cover every person in the United States. We want Medicare For All!

Cuts are not only being proposed to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security but also to veterans benefits, Head Start, pre-school programs, food stamps, school nutrition programs, unemployment insurance, energy assistance to low income families, and other programs.

Please make every effort to attend. This demonstration is taking place during work hours so we will have to make a extra special push to find people who can attend.

Let’s try to put a minimum of 25 people on the picket line for the protest. Invite family, friends, and folks from other organizations to protest with us.

Please forward this information to our email lists, post on our website and Facebook pages, send out in the form of press releases to all of our media contacts, and call the people on your telephone list if you have one.

The protest will consist of a picket line in front of the Social Security office. We will not be marching that day. Please wear your POP T-Shirt if you have one.

The People’s Organization For Progress General Assembly has voted that POP should protest proposed cuts in Social Security and other social programs twice a month on every other Tuesday. For more information call (973)801-0001.
