Four years ago, Lawrence Hamm was marshaling a convoy of 11 buses to make the four-hour journey from Newark to Washington, D.C., for Barack Obama’s historic inauguration.

Now he’s got one bus. And as of Friday, he still had seats available.

“Last time was the first. There’s always much more excitement,” said Hamm, one of Newark’s most prominent activists. Now, he said, “It’s going to be all we can do just to get there.”
